The extinguishing effect of aerosols takes place partly by the particles absorbing heat from the flame and by breaking into the chemical reactions that make the flame possible, known as heterogeneous catalysis. The solid substance consists mainly of a form of potassium compound and potassium radicals are very active which then interrupt the chemical combustion reactions by neutralizing hydrogen, oxygen and hydroxide radicals in the flame. Since aerosols consist of very small particles in a gas, the result is a more effective extinguishing agent than conventional powders. The falling speed of the particles decreases with a smaller diameter as the surface area becomes large in relation to the mass, which means that the air resistance is relatively large in relation to the gravitational force. This results in the particles staying suspended for a longer time and thus contributes to a longer inertia time. This results in better re-ignition protection. Together these factors make PGA a very effective extinguishing agent. The extinguishing effect per unit weight is in the range of 3-10 times more effective than Halon.

No, you won't have any problems breathing after using a MAUS Xtin Klein in a space. There is a neutralization of hydrogen, oxygen and hydroxide radicals in the extinguisher, which means it does not extract or remove oxygen. However, CO2 fire extinguishers have a large filling volume and, unlike the MAUS Xtin Klein, can endanger people by removing oxygen. They should not be stored on the inside of a boat or motorhome as leakage can cause oxygen deficiency.

There is currently no standard to certify our extinguishing agent (potassium) against. We have been in contact with the major test agencies, but the extinguishing agent is too new for them to be able to certify the extinguishing agent against any standard. However, we have a Swedish CE marking and have certified our products at BAM(www.bam.de) according to Module B and at Fiditas(www.fiditas.com) according to Module E.

Powder is great as an extinguishing agent, but also great at destroying everything in its path. The potassium mix destroys nothing. However, it's hard to match the extinguishing power of a powder extinguisher. A clean-up from a powder extinguisher is extremely expensive and time-consuming. Powder can also get stuck in places that can cause a fire at a later date if the powder has come into contact with electrical cables, for example. A motor that has burned and been extinguished with powder will have to be completely replaced as it is impossible to remove all the powder. Make the smart choice - always use MAUS first!
